Finding Myself Again: My Morning Routine as a Working Mom

Life has a way of getting out of control—fast. One moment you’re finding your rhythm, and the next, you’re a wife, a mom, and a professional trying to hold it all together. Somewhere along the way, it’s easy to forget about you.

And while that’s natural (and in many ways, beautiful), it also means you’re not always giving your best self. I’ve learned that when I take time to fill my own cup, I’m able to pour into others with more patience, energy, and love.

For me, that meant creating a routine that helped me balance being a working mom and wife—without feeling like I was drowning. Do I still have overwhelming days? Absolutely. But this routine has been a game changer, and I wanted to share it in hopes it helps another mom out there who’s struggling too.

The Power of an Early Start

I start my day at 5:30 A.M. sharp. No snooze button. I use the “countdown method” I once heard on a podcast: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1—GO.

Only, mine’s a little spicier: 5, 4, 3, 2, F**.* 😅 It makes me laugh, and honestly, it works.

Quiet Moments Matter

Once I’m up, the dogs go out, and I allow myself a few moments of quiet. Sometimes I just sit in peace, sometimes I cuddle with one of my pups. It’s a grounding way to start before the chaos of the day kicks in.

Shower First, No Excuses

Next up—shower. I learned that if I don’t do it right away, I’ll end up doom scrolling or (worse) closing my eyes again. Afterward, I brush my teeth, put on lotion, and slip into comfy clothes to tackle the rest of my morning.

Morning Chores, Evening Freedom

This was one of my biggest shifts. I realized I loathed doing chores in the evening. By the end of the day, I’m tired and just want to focus on my daughter.

So now I get them done in the morning:

  • One load of laundry (washed, dried, and put away).

  • Unload the dishwasher (if it ran overnight).

  • Feed the dogs.

That simple change has freed up my evenings in the best way.

Lunches Made Simple

On Sundays, I do meal prep so everything’s ready for the week. In the mornings, it’s just a matter of packing everything into the right lunchboxes. Quick and stress-free.

Kiddo Time

Around now, it’s time to wake up my daughter. She has breakfast while I do my makeup and blow dry my hair. Since her clothes are set out the night before, all that’s left is for her to get dressed, brush teeth, and let me do her hair.

Out the Door—Without the Rush

By the time we head out, the hardest parts of the day are already behind us. My chores are done, lunches are ready, and I feel calm, not frantic.

Why This Works for Me

This routine isn’t perfect, and I’m not perfect at sticking to it every single day. But it’s made a huge difference in how I feel—less overwhelmed, more intentional, and more present for my family.

It’s proof that when you prioritize yourself—even just a little—you actually show up as a better mom, wife, and woman.

So tell me—do you have a morning routine that helps keep you sane, or are you still trying to find what works?
